President’s Patter – September

Published on 29th August 2023 in Members News

I think 2023 will go down as the year of ‘blink and you’ll miss it! Time certainly flies and August has come and gone in a flash.

I had the pleasure of attending the BGC Quiz Night on the 26th and what a great night it was. Congratulations to Warren who had arranged for some interesting and varied questions and thanks also Warren’s able team of helpers who kept things moving on nicely. Regrettably there was no prize for third place – damn that Octopus! Who would have thought they had so many brains – I struggle along with half!!

There was certainly a great ‘buzz’ in the Clubhouse from the big crowd in attendance and our bar team and kitchen team were in their usual top form. This annual event certainly is one that is anticipated and looked forward to by many and the past few years have seen a consistently strong crowd. Well done everyone!

Hearty congratulations are also merited to our PGA Pro Travis and all the pro shop team for what I hear was a very well run ‘Scramble’ hosted at the Club on the 25th. Feedback from all attendees has been fantastic. This event was very well supported and provided a welcome cash injection to the Club. Chef Kahli produced some welcome bacon and egg burgers to kick the day off and there was a terrific atmosphere by all accounts in the pro shop post the event. Budding pro Bailey Hampson and his team won the day by half a shot I believe which shows how close the competition was on the day.

Travis has been busy re-energising coaching classes and clinics which are certainly proving to be very popular especially amongst our women members with junior coaching progressing well also. You will see a ‘Come and Try Day’ being actively promoted on both our Facebook page and in this Course Crier with positive numbers for this being received.

Pro shop member Tim is about to take some leave for back surgery and I am sure you join me in wishing him a successful operation and a speedy recovery. Tim has been doing a fantastic job in the pro shop and his experience and knowledge has been a very welcome and valued addition to our pro shop team. All the best Tim!

August also saw the Club host the women’s annual Bunbury Bowl and, yet again this was a well-run event which has attracted positive feedback from participants. Congratulations to all those involved in the organisation of this event with many thanks to Annette Coote, Women’s President and Lorna Hammond, Women’s Captain for their efforts in ensuring a successful weekend.

It has been great to see some warmer days and lovely weather over past weeks and I look forward to warmer days to come.

In the meantime, enjoy your golf and I look forward to seeing you on the course in September.
