President’s Patter – July 2023

Published on 29th June 2023 in Members News

Well, what a month June turned out to be! The South West Open was a terrific success with not even the copious rain and lightning on Sunday dampening the enthusiasm of the crowd at the ‘Party Hole’ on the redirected Par 3 17th hole. Albeit the event was regrettably cancelled all participants agreed that the ‘Party Hole’ was a notable feature which added to the overall ‘vibe’ of the event. Added to this was our GM Des’s footage of Chloe Veeran’s hole in one and her excitement at winning the car very generously put up by major sponsor Southwest Isuzu. Chloe was a member of the very first group that arrived at the hole and it was amazing to see the footage shot by Des receive National and local television exposure with Facebook hits reaching many thousands, this has been fantastic publicity for our Club. On behalf of the Board our sincere thanks to SW Isuzu, Nexus and all the other sponsors whose valued contribution make this event such a success.

I would also like to thank the many members, too numerous to mention, who gave up their time to assist over the weekend and whose efforts supported our very capable and professional team led by Des. The course was in magnificent condition and our Club received much positive feedback for all participants whether playing or watching some great golf. Let’s hope that the weather next year is kinder to us!

Congratulations to our Div 1 Men’s pennants team who were victorious over last weekend against strong opposition with Bailey Hampson winning his match in the team’s number one spot. Well done to all our pennant teams men’s and women’s and for representing our Club so capably.

Our Sod Skwod continues to undertake great work around the Course saving the Club many thousands of dollars for tasks that would otherwise require payment from external providers. Again, on behalf of the Board our thanks for your continuing hard work and efforts on behalf of all members.

The Club’s Italian Night proved to be a great success going by the great photos I have seen on Facebook so ‘le mie più sincere congratulazioni!’ to Rod Cutler our Director of House and Social for coming up with the idea. Unfortunately, I was in Perth attending Supanova at the Perth Convention Centre so was unable to be there on the night – I did however manage to sell 25 of my books over the course of the weekend which was personally very pleasing.

So, with July looking to be also another busy one for the Club I wish you all ‘happy golfing’ and look forward to seeing you on the Course.
