Course Report

Published on 2nd March 2023 in Course News

Another month has passed quickly, only seemed like it was last week when we did the last instalment.

With summer now technically behind us we usher in what is another busy period out on the golf course with scheduled maintenance and a jam packed playing schedule. Generally, Autumn is the best time of the year out on the course, day time temps are still warm, nights are slightly cooler. Autumn also means that we start to see the easterly winds subside allowing for better moisture retention and not to mention a reduction in tree litter – meaning areas stay relatively clean for more then a couple of hours.

The 11th blue and white tee was recently resurfaced, although it won’t be ready for the Leschenault Classic we will be looking at opening it up the week or 2 after that event.  Planting of shrubs and grasses at the back of the tee and caravan park side will commence shortly.

Fairways will be once again scarified from the 16th of March; these will be done once in one direction tee to green followed by a mow – Generally this will take a few days to complete.

Once fairway scarifying has been completed, we will look ramping up our Kikuyu spraying with the 1st of 3 applications scheduled on Thursday the 30th of March and this will follow up every 3 weeks. Just a reminder that the course will be closed for the morning on scheduled days as its critical that there is no entry onto any sprayed areas until it is dry as the the risk of tracking these chemicals onto the greens can cause significant damage.

Patching out greens and replacing these areas with new turf will commence once temperatures are favourable for new bent grass, once temperatures subside we can replace these areas and will require minimal follow up treatment. At present we don’t have the manpower to be running around and hitting these areas with a hose 2-3 times every day

March – Key Maintenance Dates: Closures will be in place during these times, please check booking sheet prior to playing.

Thursday 9th March –   Turf Machinery demonstration day 1st & 8th fairways will be used (spiked and scarified)

Thursday 16th March – Fairway Scarifying commences. 9-hole closures outside comp times.

Thursday 30th March – COURSE CLOSED til 11am – Kikuyu Spraying 1st application all fairways.
