Course Irrigation Upgrade

Published on 22nd July 2020 in Members News

The Board has recently approved an upgrade to the course irrigation system to install the new Rainbird IC system, the CIRRUS operating platform is the most advanced central control unit in the industry which will allow future growth and upgrades to ensure we have the necessary infrastructure to continue to improve the course in all areas. New Ground Water Services have been contracted to complete the project on a fixed price contract.

The new system is designed to deliver a real-time response to changing conditions, and furthermore makes it easy to automate and streamline irrigation management to better utilise our water resource allocation. IT comes with more than double the lightning protection than other systems and 24hr global support should we encounter any problems.

We have accepted an offer on Monday evening to start the project 1 month ahead of schedule beginning tomorrow following an early completion of a similar project at Cottesloe Golf Club.

This is a very exciting project for the club and our grounds staff with major improvements in efficiencies and cost savings in the future.

SHORT TERM PAIN – LONG TERM GAIN

The project installation is anticipated to take 3-4 weeks and will require 2 holes to be closed daily. The hole closures will be displayed daily on the 1st & 10th tee to advise players. Additional flags and ropes directing players through the closed hole will be in place to assist with on course traffic.

How will this impact competitions?

The Match committee have approved competition players to score a “Nett Par” or 2 Stableford points on the closed holes. Golf Australia advise that as the hole closures are temporary and short term this solution is permitted and scores can continue to be submitted for handicapping.

Other competition information

  • Tuesday Women’s 9 hole competition will be played on one nine only.
  • All Women’s Stroke Championship seeding rounds will be played on all 18 holes.
  • All 18 holes will be open on weekends.
  • Friday Twilight Comp will be played on one nine only.

Management and the Grounds team would like to thank you in advance for your patience and assistance whilst the course is under maintenance.
