Hi Everyone

A general update and information you may want to know for the year ahead.

Summer Sensation – I would like to congratulate Anna Novel on winning the Bethanie Australia Day Classic. She followed this up by registering her second Hole-in-One the following Tuesday.  That is rather an impressive effort!

Winter Season

For those of you thinking it is time to return to the fairways it would be great to see you all back on the course and in the club house. The season starts on Wednesday 17th March and Saturday 13th March.  Shani Waugh Golf School & Holidays and Corsican Golf Wear are sponsoring both Opening Days. Thank you to Shani for her ongoing support of Women’s Golf.

Pennants

Jacky Kohlman has put out a call for players interested in playing in a Pennant Team.

Bunbury has one 1st Division Team and four 2nd Division Teams in the South West District Ladies Golf Association. The first match is on Monday 3rd May and the last game is on the 31st May.  Even if you can’t play in all the games we are always looking for emergency players. If you are available for only a few of the dates put your name on the Players sheet which is posted in the Locker Room stating the dates you are available.  As Jacky stated it is a great way to improve your golf, experience playing on other courses and meeting golfers from the South West District.

If you are unsure as to how to play match play feel free to talk to any of the match committee and they will organise for you to be tutored in this format of the game.

Events To Look Forward To

Bunbury Open Day   This year we have separated our Open Day from the Bunbury Bowl & Classic. It is scheduled for Friday 23rd April.  I will be calling for volunteers to help early on the Friday morning. There will be a roster on the board on Opening Day for you to put your name down if you are able to spare some time to help.  We treat this day as our club fundraiser.  If extra money is needed to prop up other events then we have the necessary funds available. I thank Perkins Builders for their ongoing sponsorship.

The Keddie Edgar Cup will be on the 5th May. This is a 27 Hole Stableford event and is one of endurance.

The Jubilee Foursomes is on the 26th May. Find yourself a friendly partner.  This is a game of tolerance. Fortunately it is a Stableford event. If you and your partner are the winners of the Day you will represent Bunbury in Perth at Country Week.

Club Championship Competition Matchplay  This event has moved AGAIN, to ensure the course is in the best condition for such an event.

Qualifying Rounds – Round 1 – Wednesday 16th June, Round 2 – Saturday 19th June, Round 3 – Wednesday 23rd June, Round 4 – Saturday 26th June.

Players must nominate two qualifying rounds before playing.

Quarter Finals will be held on Monday 28th June. Players must be available to play am & pm.  The Final will be played on Wednesday 30th June.

Dinner and Presentations will follow that evening to celebrate the successful golfers. Be part of the celebration even if you are unable to play. It is a wonderful evening and the clubhouse is sure to be full.  Get a table of friends together and join in the fun.

The Marion Johnston Memorial Stroke Tournament Round 1 Wednesday 28th July, Round 2 Saturday 31st July, Round 3 Wednesday 4th August, Round 4 Saturday 7th August, Final Round Sunday 8th August.  Two rounds are to be nominated.  Presentations to follow the final day’s play. This event is played in conjunction with the Men’s Championship Final Day.

Marion Johnston was our 1st Female Life Member and this event is held in her honour.  Her daughters, Tracey and Cinda, sponsor the event.  We hope for better weather this year so Tracey and Cinda will be able to travel from Perth for the presentations.

Margaret Jane Perpetual Trophy sponsored by Marlene Jane – 21st July

Memorial Day sponsored by Maureen O’Keefe & Fiona Driver – 11th August

The Bunbury Bowl & Classic will be held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd August. This event is sponsored by Willow Bridge Estate & Bunbury Honda.

The Golden Bracelet will be on Wednesday 3rd & 10th November this will be a wonderful way to finish the season.  Thank you to our former Presidents for sponsoring this prestigious event.

Grounds – At present rakes will not be reinstated in the Bunkers. The Club Match Committee will review this in March. The course is looking fantastic and for those of you who haven’t been here over summer you will be very impressed.

One last thing I would like to mention and that is the introduction of Women into the Saturday afternoon field.  For many who are a part of the work force and work during the week this is a most desirable step forward.  Great to see a few women playing later in the day.

That’s if for now.  Look forward to seeing you on Opening Day, if not before.

Happy golfing.

Desiree Gardiner

Women’s President.
