WABLGA UPDATE

Published on 21st February 2019 in Women's News

Bunbury Business Associates formed in 1985 due to the enthusiasm of Marion Johnston and Jean Richardson.   Now known as Saturday Women Golfers, this enthusiastic group continues to thrive.   Many golfers regularly play in our competition providing a variety of partners and a healthy rivalry.

Our first pennant involvement was restricted to South West Coastal Pennants.   In 1994 Robyn Waugh and Desiree Gardiner rallied a team together to join the WABLGA Pennant Competition.   We have continued to participate since and in the last year (2018) achieved our highest ranking of third position.   During the six weeks pennant competition, and for other WABLGA events, we regularly leave home between 5.00 and 6.30am – a measure of our enthusiasm and commitment.   The long road trips ensure the development of a supportive camaraderie amongst our players which is extended to others at WABLGA events.   These friendships are a vital component of WABLGA membership.

BBA is the medium through which promising juniors get a chance to prove themselves.   We are proud to have had the likes of Shani Waugh, Jessica Clyde, Chelsea Ellis, Ayesha Evans,  Penny Clohessy and Andrea Clohessy playing with our group through the years. We are about to welcome another junior player this coming season, Taylah Hall, extending our membership again.

Del MacNeill was a long serving WABLGA representative, pennant captain and all round enthusiastic WABLGA participant. Although not participating as a player nowadays, Del still encourages all Bunbury players and even does the early morning drives some Sundays to caddy and support our team.   We are all very grateful for her encouragement and unceasing enthusiasm and nurturing of us all.

Members for 2019 are; Vanessa Benci (2yr hiatus from MLGC), Beth Deeley, Jennie Freeman, Jackie Larsen, Lorraine Martin, Wendy McCloy, Therese McGillivray, Zelda Meads, Maureen Myers, Tricia Power, Julie Rodgers, Rita Semple and Donna Wroth. We are welcoming new members Ellen House and Taylah Hall for 2019. We lovingly celebrate Lorraine and Zelda for continuing to be associated with WABLGA and Bunbury GC, our longest serving participants.
