President’s Update

Published on 9th February 2022 in Members News

If you weren’t watching closely, you may have missed January so rapidly, did it pass by. No doubt February will go the same way!!

Firstly, I would like to thank all members for their patience and forbearance as the Club has dealt with the vaccination proof requirements.

The vast majority of members have been supportive of the Government mandates with many of us now triple vaxed. It is great that members have been more than willing to adapt to the requirements in terms of the requirements. I would also like to commend our hard-working staff who have also coped extremely well with the often-irksome requirements which are, of course, designed to keep us as safe as possible. However, I think most of us realise that the arrival of Covid is inevitable whatever the State Government may do or however long they postpone that inevitability.

Having gone on a short tour of the course with staff members today (Tuesday the 8th Feb) led by Des you will see a number of changes about the course this week starting with the filling in of the pot bunker on the back of the 4th hole (and completed in an incredibly short span of time by Dave and his team). These changes have made quite a change to the ‘look’ of the green and as a huge number of members had a positive hatred of that ‘trap’ I can almost hear a collective sigh of satisfaction. Whether it is any easier to play however remains to be seen – I suspect not.

Also, the very worn and degraded area to the left of the bunker on the 5th Green has been patched with some clean up and modification to the bunker. Male members with carts are asked to go around the green by travelling to the right of the peppy tree on the RHS of the green and NOT between the tree and the green to get to the 6th tee. Thank you in anticipation of your cooperation.

We have a new staff member starting on Thursday in the person of Alison Lucas (guess who she is related to!) who will bring welcome expertise and support in the managing of accounts and general admin support. I am sure you will all make Alison feel very welcome to the ‘BGC family’. In addition, there is a ‘meet and greet’ to which new members have been invited at the Club tomorrow at 5.30pm. A number of Board members including myself and staff will be there to say ‘hello’ and to make them feel welcome. Thank you to Director of Membership Mandi Willcocks for her tireless efforts in this area to date along with our energetic marketing/membership team member Jodie for organising this function.

It was lovely to say a farewell to our bar team member Laura, on her last working day on Sunday at the Club, thank you to Warren for his thank you on behalf of Sunday golfers. A great staff ‘farewell’ was held for her last Friday and I would like to thank the many members who signed the farewell cards for her. I am sure you join me in wishing her all the very best for the future. She will certainly be missed but I don’t think she is going to miss working weekends after several years at the Club.

Finally, our GM Des contacted me over the weekend in relation to the fires which destroyed Bridgetown Golf Club. We will be looking at some fundraising activity(ies) to support them as they rebuild after this devastating event and to show that they are not alone. I don’t want to think about such a terrible occurrence happening on our course or how we might feel afterwards.

Until next time happy golfing and stay well!
