From the Captain

Published on 10th January 2022 in Uncategorised

This is my first official information package for the Course Crier in my role as Captain of BGC. For those who may have missed my email sent out just before Xmas, the following are some of the latest items and projects we are dealing with.

          Updates:

  • Prizes: By now you will be aware that Match has changed the way we allocate prizes on the basis of fairness. Basically, equal score on the day means equal prize allocation. The exception is where a sponsor prize needs a winner on the day so the countback system is used. A copy of our prize guidelines has been placed on the local rules notice board for those interested in the full explanation.
  • Visitors: Following a number of concerns by members, the guidelines for visitors using our course have been updated and a copy will be given to each visiting player (or their group, to follow). These new guidelines are on the Local Rules notice board giving members a clear idea of what is expected of others using our course. Inappropriate behaviour may be challenged (preferably in a friendly, non-aggressive manner) keeping in mind that some behaviours are not intentional.
    • Note 1: We are looking at updating these guidelines to be included on each of our Club Carts so visitors (and club members) know exactly what we need to do to protect our course.
    • Note 2: It is worth checking this Local Rules notice board on a regular basis.
  • Course Rating: The white course has now been re-rated for male players due to the positioning of hole #3 T Box for our white markers. Some players will have experienced one less stroke off their HCP when playing from white markers. The new CCR is 129 (changed from 130) and the DSR is 70 (changed from 71).
  • Hole Index Ratings: These will change soon for the front nine when playing off white markers, again due to the #3 hole being easier to play off from the new T placement. We will be analyzing recent data on each front nine hole to determine the changes needed. Back nine will remain unchanged at this stage.
  • Bunkers: The small bunker at the rear of hole #4 will be filled in and re-grassed some time in the new year. Other bunkers are currently being reviewed by our bunker committee. Watch this space.

Finally:  Thank you again to those many people who have agreed to be convenors for our weekly competitions. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you also to those members who have encouraged me to take up this new role. I am humbled by the response received so far.

I hope you all had a great Xmas and are looking forward to a very positive New Year.
